The souldew board: Robin and Kim’s linked Pokémon side by side with live HP bars, levels and the route each pair was caught on.

02 Linking up

Link up in
a minute.

482917

  1. Host a run. Pick the game, an optional ROM hack and randomizer settings – everyone builds the exact same game from their own ROM.
  2. Share the code. Friends join with six digits, and you approve each one. Valid for 15 minutes, one person per code.
  3. Play. Teams, levels and HP sync live. New catches land on the right route by themselves.

03 The board

Side by
side.

Linked Pokémon share one row – with live HP, level, status and the route they’re from, read straight from both games.

The board with five linked pairs; marked are Robin’s Ember with its live HP and the run counters: 5 alive, 1 dead, 0 waiting.

04 In the box

One app.
No second window.

Emulator, tracker, rules, randomizer and sync live in the same place – and they talk to each other.

  1. DS, GBA, Game Boy and Game Boy Color. 1–4× speed, eight save states, PlayStation, Xbox and Switch pads – and the game keeps running in a mini window while you check the board.

  2. Species, nickname, level, HP, status and where it was caught – read from the running game’s memory. New catches file themselves under their route.

  3. The opponent’s types and weaknesses, how your moves land – and whether your rules even allow the catch, including type clashes with your partners.

  4. Up to four players, directly over WebRTC or through an encrypted relay. Your partner’s game shows up as a small live picture next to yours.

  5. Universal Pokémon Randomizer ZX is built in, Java included. xdelta, BPS, UPS and IPS patches are applied for you, with 31 known hacks ready to go.

  6. Fast-forward through the grind while the music keeps its normal speed. For DS games souldew plays the current song from your ROM’s own sound archive.

  7. A sign next to the game shows each player’s area, read live – and what it means for them: first encounter open, caught, used up or dead.

  8. English, German, French, Spanish and Italian. Colour-blind safe schemes, full keyboard control and reduced motion.

05 Streaming

Built for
going live.

  • Drag into OBS. Every widget lands as a browser source in exactly the right size.
  • Streamer mode. One switch hides invite codes, file paths and randomizer spoilers.
  • Pokélink bridge. Your existing Pokélink themes can show souldew’s data.
  • Overlay API. A documented JSON snapshot and live event stream – streaming guide.
Kim’s solo Nuzlocke: four Pokémon with HP, counters for caught, missed, open areas, alive and dead, and the next level cap 17 for Bugsy.

06 Solo Nuzlocke

Your rules,
enforced.

17Next level cap
Bugsy

Classic, Hardcore or your own rules. Level caps, dupes and shiny clause, deaths and blackouts are detected for you – and the graveyard remembers who did it.

07 Supported games

Red to White 2.

Every main-series game from Generation 1 to 5 plays in souldew. Team and HP are read live in all of them; the battle panel and “You are here” in Gen 1–4.

  • Gen 1Red · Blue · Yellow
  • Gen 2Gold · Silver · Crystal
  • Gen 3Ruby · Sapphire · Emerald · FireRed · LeafGreen
  • Gen 4Diamond · Pearl · Platinum · HeartGold · SoulSilver
  • Gen 5Black · White · Black 2 · White 2

English and German versions are supported for the team. For other languages and ROM hacks with a changed memory layout souldew searches for the team – and you can always enter catches by hand.

Your games stay on your computer. Only tracker data travels between players, encrypted with the key from your invite. No account, no telemetry, no ROMs – ever.

09 Questions

Good
to know.

souldew is free and stays free. If it made your runs more fun, you can buy me a coffee – or help build it.

Is souldew free?

Yes – free and open source under the GNU GPL v3.0 or later. No ads, no in-app purchases.

Does souldew include any games?

No. You play your own, legally obtained ROMs. souldew recognises them by header and checksum, also inside zips, and when it searches your computer it only reads file names and headers.

Do I need a server or an account?

No. The apps find each other through public relays and then connect directly. If a router blocks that, data goes through an encrypted public relay instead – no port forwarding needed.

Do my friends need the same ROM?

Everyone uses their own copy of the same game – a different language version works too. For randomized runs souldew builds the identical game for every player and compares the checksums.

Which emulators can I use?

The built-in one (recommended), or melonDS and mGBA as external emulators – mGBA with live data through a Lua script, melonDS after every in-game save.

Something went wrong – what should I send?

Right after it happens, use Save diagnostics in the app’s help and attach the file to a bug report. It contains what the app read and decided – no ROM, save or invite data.
